FAQ

  • What is Pickleball?

Pickleball was invented in 1965 on Bainbridge Island, a short ferry ride from Seattle, Washington. Three dads – Joel Pritchard, Bill Bell, and Barney McCallum — whose kids were bored with their usual summertime activities — are credited for creating the game. Pickleball has evolved from original handmade equipment and simple rules into a popular sport throughout the US and Canada. The game is growing internationally as well, with many European and Asian countries adding courts.

  • How do I win?

Be the first player to play enough tricks that equal exactly 11 points.

  • What is a trick?

A trick is 3 of the same cards (Dinks, Slams, ATP, etc.) The value of the trick is listed on the upper left-hand corner of the card. For example, a trick of Dinks (3 Dink cards) is worth 1 point. A trick of Blocks (3 Block cards) is worth 4 points.

  • How many actions can I take per turn?

One. You can play a trick, play a special card, discard a card, or pass. If you steal a card by playing a special, and the stolen card gives you a trick, you cannot play it because you have already taken one action. You would play the trick on your next turn.

  • If I already have seven cards and I steal a card, can I keep the one I stole?

Yes, but you would have to discard a different card. If you needed to discard a special card , you would not be able to use it. It must be played as a dead discard because you would have already played a prior special card on your turn, which is what allowed you to steal the card to begin with.

  • Can I play an Erne card on an opponent?

Lucky Shots are designed to be played on the hand of the person playing it, but you could always make a house rule allowing Lucky Shots to be played on someone else in order to take that person’s number of points over 11.
